Same Cool Designs...Much better fits

As we complete a year of being live, we have learnt a lot about what our customers want from us. The good news has been that overall, we have been able to meet and exceed our customers expectations regarding the quality of the t shirts and the printing, and also our service levels. This has largely been because of a great production and printing team and an ever - smiling and helpful customer service and logistics team.

One area however, where we feel that there was some scope for improvement was the fit of the t shirts. For Women's sizes, most of our customers are happy with the fit. However, for Men's sizes, we did get feedback about three areas: The Neck, Sleeves and Lenghth. Over the last few months, we have been experimenting with different styles and cuts and finally have made the following changes for all our Men's t shirts:

The Neck or Collor has been made much smaller and tighter. This has been a long standing demand from a lot of our customers.
The Sleeve has also been made tighter by about 1/2 inch, without compromising on the comfort.
The Lenght of the t shirts across sizes have been reduced by 1/2 - 1 inches.

We have got some great initial feedback for this changes from our regular customers. The changes have been implemented from all designs that have been introduced from our 100% Genuine. The only two exceptions are Windstorm and Same Turtle, Different Colours, which still have the old cut and style.

Another significant change that we have made is to introduce 3XL for Men's Sizes. We have been getting a lot of requests for 3XL peices and we hope that more people will be able to enjoy our t shirts with this introduction.

We hope that these changes will go a long way in increasing the level of satisfaction for our users.

Reduction in Shipping Time for US orders.

The world is definitely getting a lot closer...

We've been trying to consistently improve the quality of service to our users and one of the most important tasks that we have set ourselves is to try and reduce the transit times for our international orders.

Over the last month we have experimented with many different logistics companies and service providers in an effort to offer you our free shipping service with even faster delivery times.

We are happy to announce that in a first step towards that goal, our US shipments will now get delivered within 12 working days (approx 2 weeks). This is a reduction of 1 - 2 weeks from what the transit time was earlier.

For other countries, we are trying hard to get the same service as soon as possible. In any case, our experience has been that for Europe, Australia and most of Asia deliveries do happen within 2 weeks.

We hope this step will allow our users to get a much better service experience while ordering from our site.

Holiday Hullabaloo!

It's been such a great year!

Last Year at Christmas time, all the team members of CaptainKYSO were wondering what the new year would bring for them. Full fledged preparations for the launch of our website had been going on for a few months. There were many questions about how our new venture would be accepted by our users and if they would like the t shirts and the community that we were trying to build.

CaptainKYSO is now 9 months old and we've tried our best to bring the world's best t shirt designers and their coolest designs to you. And now when the year is about to end, we would like to give our community some nice, genuine deals for the holiday season.

From 19th December for a few weeks, we will be introducing a new deal every 2 - 3 day on the home page of the website. Apart from giving our users a chance to get some great tees at even greater prices, our objective is also to intorduce many of our newer members to some of our earlier designs and designers and for those who missed out on buying some of our earlier prints, to get that "one that got away"

The magic of the "Bring it Back" button

October is a transition month in India, wherein in most places the monsoon subsides and slowly the cool days of winter start setting in. It is also a time of the beginning of festivals with many such as Diwali, Eid and The Puja just around the corner.

CaptainKYSO is now more than 6 months old and in this period we have released more than 125 designs for you. Many popular artists from around the world have supported the site by licensing some fabulous designs to us. Many of these designs were printed in the begining and by the time a vast majority of our community became aware of the site, they were already into the archives.

For all those people who did not get a chance to buy some of our coolest designs, first time around, we bring you "CaptainKYSO's Redux Forthnight". Over the next 2 weeks we will be releasing some of our popular old designs, back from the archives for a very limited period. Each design will be sold only for 2 weeks before they go back in the archives.

Better Prices for the same cool t shirts

Does anything ever become less expensive?

Gold just hit an all-time high. Oil prices to go up this weekend. So we live in a world where nothing becomes less expensive. Ever. Right?

We want to change that as far as CaptainKYSO t shirts are concerned. Starting today, for our Indian customers, the first day price of our t shirts will be Rs. 399 and second day onwards you can buy them at Rs. 499. That’s a cool Rs. 100 less than what you were paying earlier.

You must be wondering. Why and How? Why, because we want to make these cool tees more affordable to a larger percentage of the population and we want you guys to get the best possible deal for each rupee that you spend.

What about How? Are we compromising on quality? The answer is an emphatic NO. In the last six months, the KYSO community has been growing rapidly and we are now at a stage where we can gain some economies of scale in our production. This we are passing on to you, right now. So it’s basically the same quality that you've come to expect from us at a much better price.

The last tricky issue we faced was when to bring about this change. Since we can only do it at one stroke, there was a justified opinion around the office that it would be a bit unfair to the customers who bought just a few days before the price changed. So for all these guys, we’ll be sending something in the mail which will hopefully help in smoothing some ruffled feathers.

We sincerely hope that this move will help in welcoming more people into the KYSO community and will also make our loyal customers buy a few more of those prints that they always wanted.

Lastly, why not better prices for our international customers as well? That’s because, a very large portion of the total price goes into shipping cost which has been going up over the last few months. In case we are able to strike a better deal in the coming months with our logistics partner, we ll try and pass on the savings to you for sure!!

A major concern that international customers have had is the time taken for shipping, with normal shipments taking between 2 - 4 weeks. Well, we have a solution for that now!

From today, if we receive orders of 3 or more t shirts from any of our users within a 24 hours period, we'll send it using the expedited shipping option for FREE! This option will guarantee delivery within 5 working days anywhere in the world. We will also be able to track each of these shipments on a real time basis.

All you have to do is order 3 or more t shirts of any designs from the website and leave the rest to us. You ll receive the delivery for these tees within 5 working days! Anywhere in the world!! You don't have to buy 3 tees of the same design. 3 or more tees of a combination of any designs and sizes which are available for sale on the website, will do the trick.

Another change that we are making is that from now on all normal international shipments will have the facility of being tracked from our end. This was currently not being done. So at any point in time, we ll be able to let you know exactly where your shipment is.

We have been testing this facility for the last month and we've realised that it has also reduced the transit time in most cases by atleast 1 week. However, we will be paying an extra charge for this. So the prices of the t shirts will increase marginally by $ 1 from today. On the first day each tee will cost $ 15 and the second day onwards it will be $ 19. These are all inclusive charges inclusive of normal shipping.

We hope that both these improvements will help in making sure that all our customers receive their t shirts fast and that they always get the information about where the shipments are at any point in time.

It will also completely eleminate those rare instances wherein a customer did not receive his or her t shirt.

Bigger and Better - Changes in our Sizing Chart

WE'VE CHANGED OUR SIZES FROM TODAY...

When we started the website a couple of months ago, we kept the sizes a bit smaller than what was generally available in the American and European Markets. However, we have realized that a very significant portion of the community (especially in the Men’s Category) have been asking for bigger, more comfortable sizes as compared to the ones that we started out with.

Well, we hear you, and as I had written in a blog entry a couple of weeks ago, we have introduced new sizes from today. The fit is now larger, more comfortable and more in line with what our international customers are used to.

The exact specifications are of course present in the sizing chart next to each t shirt. However, in simple terms, for Men’s T shirts, we’ve shifted a bit more than one size upwards. So the new Men’s Small is approximately equal to what the old Men’s Medium was.

For Women’s sizes, although we haven’t changed the chest specifications, we’ve narrowed the waist a little bit (about ½ - ¾ inch on an average), and also increased the length by about 1 inch.

We think that all these changes are a definite improvement over what we started with and will give the users a much better and comfortable fit. It will also allow a lot of our bigger sized users to buy the t shirts.

The quality of our designs and artists, of course, remains the same.

Patrick Spens - All Week This Week

Patrick does WHAT?

Over the last few months, we ve tried to feature as many different artists as possible on the site with a view to give you guys unique and exclusive t shirt designs which reflect a variety of ideas, thoughts and cultures. We love all these artists and their works and if given a chance we would like to feature many more of their designs and convert them into limited edition t shirts.

This week we’ve decided to do something different and instead of featuring different artists every day, we thought that it would be fun to display the same artist’s different works throughout the week.

And who better than Mr. Patrick Spens for this week long feature. So, starting from Monday, 14^th May, till Friday, 18^th May, we will bring you five of Patrick Spens best designs.

Patrick is one of the most prolific artists that we have had the honour of featuring. In spite of being printed on many other t shirt websites, literally hundreds of times, each new design that he creates has something unique in it. The simplicity with which he deals with various subjects is unmatched and is exactly what we as a t shirt company look for in our designers. The wit and deep thought which comes out of each of his designs always brings an “aha” when we see it.

As a new company, we have indeed been very fortunate that he has supported us so whole heartedly in the early stages of this website and has licensed such beautiful designs to us. I hope that over the years we print many more designs of this genius designer from Sandy, Utah.

I am sure that there will be many people who will want to own all 5 of the designs that come up this week. After all, Patrick Spens designs have always been collector’s items...

2nd CHANCES ANYONE?

We are now 5 weekends old. Thats 10 days of cool new t shirts that we ve introduced over the last 5 weekends. While the site has been getting a great response and word has been spreading fast about the new kid in town, we must admit that even we have not been spared of the weekend curse which seems to be the bane of many online communities and stores.

Simply put, the number of people that come on the site over the weekend is lower than what we see over the weekdays. Since the site is still new, we thought that until weekend traffic went up to levels which did justice to some of the great artwork that we have lined up for you guys, we should try and do some fun innovative stuff over the weekends.

So here's the plan. We'll keep Friday's t shirt on as the daily deal t shirt throughout the weekend. But along with that we'll also introduce "CaptainKYSO's Super Secret Sale". Throughout the weekend, at random times, we will be selling a few t shirts from our Gallery for sale at our discounted 1st day prices. This sale price could be on 2 t shirts or 20. They could be available for 3 mins or 7 hours. No one knows. There is a chance that over a weekend we may change the items on sale many times, or sometimes we could just keep Friday's t shirt for sale without adding any others. Like we said before, no one knows!

So on a lazy sunday afternoon, if you see a t shirt for sale in the gallery for the first day price, this could be your last chance to grab it.. On the other hand, maybe it ll come back for sale again next weekend. Who Knows?

DOES THE EARLY BIRD ALWAYS CATCH THE WORM?

It seems that we aren't really the night owls that we thought we would be. Its almost been a month since the site went live, and before we launched, we had whimsically decided that the "T shirt of the day" should get launched at the begining of the day i.e. 12.00 a.m. IST. But, we've learnt two important things in the last month.

That staying awake late into the night to make sure that everything goes right when the new t shirt launches, is a daunting task, leading to bleary eyed, sleepy KYSO staff during the day
There is a tremendous following which is building up for our site in different parts of the world which makes 12.00 a.m. as the time to launch, irrelevant. We can't of course keep all time zones happy.

So, from 18th April, 2012, "Today's T shirt" will now launch at 10 a.m. IST. Everything else will remain the same.

BLANKS, QUALITY OF T SHIRTS, SIZING CHART ET AL..

I've noticed some curiosity on our (but mainly other website forums) about CaptainKYSO's t shirt quality and sizes. Hence, we think that it would be necassary to subject you to a boring (for most) but necessary (for the discerning t shirt lover) explanation about our backend processes and answer some questions regarding the quality of our blanks and also about the sizing chart. Since the right forum to address these questions would be on our website and blog, here goes..

At CaptainKYSO from the begining we realized that if we wanted to offer international quality t shirts which would do justice to the beautiful designs that our artists were creating, we needed to take charge of the entire manufacturing process instead of outsourcing it to a company which made blanks. Running the website from India, which is a dominant player in the international t shirt manufacturing industry, it is also a competitive advantage which we plan to fully utilize.

As a result, we took upon ourselves to "backward integrate" the tee manufacturing process into our system. We have as our strategic partners, one of the leading cotton yarn manufacturing companies in India from whom we source the yarn. The yarn is 24's count cotton for Men and 30's count cotton for Women.

This is then knitted as per our specifications and finally dyed into 13 different colours that we are offering. During the dyeing process, we use Soft flow & Compaction as basic processes, and also carry out various additional processes such as Silicone Softening and Bio Wash. These are carried out to increase the softness and "hand feel" of the t shirts.

After this the stiching of the t shirts is carried out based on our specs and pattern. Since, we are located in India, our sizes are based on Asian body frames which tend to run a bit smaller than American and European body structures. In case you are used to American or European sizes, we would strongly recommend buying a size larger than what you normally buy. That should be enough to cover the difference.

However, we have realized that it would be better to have a less confusing (for a significant portion of our community) and more international sizing chart. So, we have already started the process of having a chart that is follows international specifications. We will inform you as soon as we shift to the new sizing chart.

A Bird? A Plane?...

WHO IS CAPTAINKYSO?

Captain Kyso was born on the planet Torso* around the same time corporate culture was invented. He lived in a time where wearing an item of clothing with a collar on it was a crime punishable by law (so was using the word ‘synergy’, but that’s another story). It was a happier time where men and women roamed about wearing cool t-shirt designs and smoking ma and drinking wheat beer chocolate milk all day long.

Then, along came the Corporate Age, with its glitzy veneer hiding the iron fist of pinstripes and conformity; its staid colours and polo-necks washing away the metaphor this sentence was supposed to be. People were lonely and unhappy; they shuffled along uncomfortably, their tight neck-ties making them gasp for breath, and made their way to supermarkets to buy vanilla ice-cream and plain one-size-fits-all t-shirts, while presumably listening to that time’s equivalent of Justin Bieber.

Creative t-shirt designs were frowned upon, as they might stimulate the populace into thinking and thereby revolting. The rulers were collectively known as the ‘Establishment’, and they went around imprisoning all the creative free-thinkers of the world, who were collectively known as the ‘Visionaries’. It was an infinitely more depressing time than today, even though we live in a world where Two And A Half Men is a hit TV show and Arrested Development got cancelled after a mere three seasons.

The last straw was when they made the word ‘synergy’ legal again with the Oxford Dictionary naming it the “Word of the Year”.

*Tragic music begins*

*Slow-motion black and white montage of untold misery and suffering*

*Tragic music ends*

Right, so where were we? Oh yes, deep suffering. So, yeah, the Visionaries started a resistance movement that involved open defiance and civil disobedience -- inspired by the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, Jack Nicholson and Charlie Sheen. They called it the Kyso movement, which stands for Keep Your Shirt On (although, one smart Alec suggested abbreviating the slogan Shirt Lovers United Team; he was immediately asked to leave the movement). They rejected trousers and ties, wore (*gasp*) bright and unconventional colours and even started listening to (*double gasp*) indie music.

However, the Visionaries lacked organization and were ruthlessly persecuted. They could not win against the Establishment. They needed a hero.

At such a time, Captain Kyso (born Y Mann**) emerged from the depths of ignominy, fighting back against our corporate overlords and declaring war against dull, unimaginative formal clothing. A young and dynamic man, he quickly rose to become the leader of the Visionaries.

Not many know this, but before he became the Captain, Mr Mann used to work with the enemy (read: a hedge fund), which is why he understood the processes of brainwashing used by the Establishment. He figured out a way to beat the system with the help of his small but loyal band of followers.

The Visionaries regained large portions of power about a decade ago, all thanks to Captain Kyso. However, the Establishment hasn’t yet been defeated completely. They lurk in the shadows, biding their time and planning their next move. The Visionaries need you. The Kyso movement needs you. Captain Kyso needs you.

How can you help? Use this website to spread his message far and wide (he based his operations out of India because damn they sure need some decent t-shirts in that country). Contribute to the Visionaries’ campaign to continue fighting the Establishment by purchasing their original creations.

THE LONGEST DAY OF THE YEAR

Its exciting to tell you that we are going to launch the site tonight at 12 a.m. today (GMT + 5.30 hours).

The first artist to be featured will be Camila Matos from Brazil, with her hilarious design titled "The Perfect Professional Machine". Since the design has a humorous take on Artists, we thought that it would be a nice way to start the site.

Our website has been in the making for quite a while now and today on the day of launch, we look forward to the future with a lot of anticipation and hope..

We hope that the site will become a daily pit stop for all artists looking to channelize their creativity and talent and come up with unique, take - your - breadth - away designs on a regular basis.

We anticipate that the site will be loved by people looking to buy t shirts that are as unique as them and who will come to the site to explore and appreciate the new t shirt designs that come up every day on the site.

The added incentive of a delicious low price for 24 hours every day will surely make high quality T shirt art accesible to everyone of us.
